Second autocross of the season is this weekend and also second event in this car. I’ve been driving hot hatches for quite a while so relearning the limits and handling characteristics of RWD made for an interesting wet and rainy first event. I have 4 events total under my belt so I will be running in the Novice group for this season.

I’m interested to see how dropping ~9 lbs per corner from switching to the new Apex wheels will affect steering response.

Next on the list is changing what I assume to be the factory trans fluid for BG Synchro Shift II. I have some pretty rough notchiness on the 1 - 2 shift occasionally, and I’ve heard nothing but good things about Synchro Shift II. Hopefully that helps or resolves the issue, otherwise I will be looking into a shifter bracket.

Overall, looks like a nice run. I'd say do less coasting - if the steering wheel is straight you should either be hard on the gas or hard on the brakes. Yes, you could probably carry more speed at most of the corners as well, and sometimes smooth out the corner a bit more to help carry more speed. For someone in Novice class, the line through the course looked pretty good.

Thanks for the feedback! I think I was focusing too much on looking ahead and forgetting to accelerate, especially in the back half of the course.
I have another event this weekend, so that’s something I will work on.

Looking ahead is good! Try to look / plan about 2 seconds ahead, but you need to put that plan into use when you get there. Too many novices don't look far enough ahead and end up having the car out of position for the next element, they get mentally "behind" of the course and feel rushed and panicked. By looking far enough ahead, you're actually more relaxed and can be smoother on all your inputs. This reduces the "jerkiness" of weight transfers and can maximize the grip of each tire. "Smooth is fast!"

But most importantly, have fun!
