No Hammer Splined Strut Bolt Install

I couldn’t stand the idea of a sledge used on my new Mustang, so I sprung for a large truck stud removal tool. Super easy removal and install. I did start to build a c-clamp/ socket contraption similar to this but I ran into getting enough clearance on the inside and outside of my socket. I needed a spacer (came with the tool) to clear the hub for the lower bolt.

I just checked Amazon and the price has jumped $250 since March. I guess build one from a c-clamp… Ouch.

I'm confused did that help you get the two splined bolts for the strut?

I was replacing my struts. To remove the two splined bolts, all I’ve seen on videos is a sledge hammer used to pound out the bolts. I found using this stud press removed the bolts much quicker and easier (judging by the videos I have watched). I bought 4 new bolts from Ford to replace the one use bolts that I removed.

Here’s a video of a new one being installed, the stud tool is just flipped around. A spacer that came with the tool, was needed to press out the lower bolt. I have a 4 bolt hub in my 2021. Similar to a magneride hub.

That's awesome, I don't recall having to hammer it back in though. I've done it twice about a year apart so I cannot recall. Regardless, the main objective is getting it out and this tool can do just that? Correct? If it can, that's awesome because I've spent an hour at best trying to hammer it out hoping I caught the right angle. Please confirm once more if it can be used to uninstall/remove the bolts.

Yes, both removal and install easily. I posted on another forum and a member used this which is smaller and much cheaper. He used a 1 1/4 socket as the spacer the bolt is pushed through. OEMTOOLS 27023 Ball Joint Press

The nut is removed and flipped over to give a bigger surface for the press. Not really needed though.

How much force is needed to remove the bolt? I'm wondering if you could get away with using a C-clamp; maybe a heavy-duty one.

That’s what the guy tried on the other forum with no success. Give it a go and see if you can make it work.. Also the ball joint press can usually be rented for cheap.
